Handmade Oboe Reeds

I personally select each piece of cane, gouge, shape, tie, scrape, and test each reed. I use high quality materials, including the beautiful and consistent Sierra staples with real cork. The whole process from tube cane to finished reed takes about a week with plenty of time for the reeds to settle in and be finely adjusted.

Oboists who previoiusly used machine made or partially hand finished reeds notice a huge difference in the tone quality, pitch accuracy and stability, and ease of playing of my reeds. Discriminating artists find that my reeds have a complex tone, wide dynamic range, and excellent response.

Cane and Unfinished Reeds

I also offer gouged cane, shaped cane, and unscraped reed blanks for sale. I have a few various brands of cane in stock, all of which I currently use to make reeds for my customers and for myself.

I now sort through my cane before I gouge it, eliminating pieces that are too hard and too soft. As a result, you'll get far more great reeds from my cane and blanks than if you buy elsewhere.
